"Gord and I met over 20 years ago as retail neighbours in the Lawrence Park strip of stores. I visited his store frequently with my dog for food, replacement leads (you large dog owners will understand), and loads of advice.  Robin hood, my previous Bouvier, was my first non-family dog, and as I was used to small dogs, Gord had experience with his own Shepherds. Gord always made time for me and all customers, remembering both the pet and owners' names. I distinctly remember feeling a real sense of sincerity, compassion, support, and friendship. About 3 years ago, I left my store and went on to pursue other things. No longer owning my own business, and not having the luxury of taking my dog to work, I found myself in need of a dog caregiver.  I say caregiver because I didn’t just want someone going through the motions of walking my dog. I wanted someone who would sneak in some obedience, who both loved and was loved by my dog, and who loved what they were doing.  So quite by accident I stumbled upon a card in a pet shop with Gord’s name on it offering pet care services.  The relationship was immediately rekindled, this time with Phoenix.  Gord saw Phoenix and I through both a career and residence change; not easy for people or pets, and his even temper and love of what he does provided the stability Phoenix needed, and in turn what I needed. As a dog owner, and through his experience at the pet shop, Gord knows and appreciates the needs of both the owner and pet (which are usually quite different).  I truly believe that while they are in his care, Gord treats every pet as if they were his very own.  That level of care is priceless.  We have our very own local dog whisperer. "Over the years, Gord has become part of our household team.  When we leave town, whether for a day or for a month, we rely on him to do the usual walks, feedings and “check-ins” on our beloved 14 year old female Irish Water Spaniel.  In those longer absences, we also depend on him for general assessments of our dog’s health and welfare, giving us updates by phone or e-mail on her reaction to new medicines or the strength of her hindquarters.  Gord always confirms dates prior to our departure so that we are certain that there are no gaps in her daily care, and follows up after our return on any concerns he may have.  Gord also adds the personal touch by bringing in our mail and noting any disturbances to the property while we are gone – a nice value-added service to a homeowner.  We have supplied Gord with a key to the house and a code to our Security System for many years now, knowing that we have a trusted friend looking after our dog and keeping an eye on our home."
